WASHINGTON (Reuters) – People who regularly eat burned or charred red meat, like that cooked on a grill, have a 60 percent higher risk of pancreatic cancer, U.S. researchers reported Tuesday.
The finding is one of the strongest yet linking very well-done meat, especially red meat, to cancer.
“Our findings in this study are further evidence that turning down the heat when grilling, frying, and barbecuing to avoid excess burning or charring of the meat may be a sensible way for some people to lower their risk for getting pancreatic cancer,” Kristin Anderson of the University of Minnesota, who led the study, said in a statement.
Dear McBlog, I’m looking at gaming systems, which one should I buy? Thanks, Your Mom.
Dear Your Mom, that’s a tough question, thanks for asking. First lets start with why that’s a harder question than you think. You see there are so many different type of gamers, and considering you used the name mom, I’m guessing you won’t be playing this thing the most. SO lets consider the only two options there are b/c we’re going to ignore overpriced gaming computers stuffed into a PS3 box. You could buy a Xbox 360 or a Nintendo Wii. Both have a large game selection, and both are fun at parties if you have the right games. ok forget it I’m tired of typing. Just buy a xbox 360!!! Sure the Wii is fun at parties for like 24 minutes but really who wants plastic tennis rackets sitting around?!? Grab a 360 and 4 controllers and maybe some of these party titles: Rockband, Lips, Halo 3, COD4, Fusion Frenzy, Fusion Frenzy 2, Scene It, Trivial Pursuit… etc. I was going to hyperlink those but you can just google the name + xbox 360 and it will pull up. Plus Xbox 360 has a large arcade library that lets you buy and download games immediately.
Plus that is one sweet deal at Costco (six games included)!
Anyone else have some 2 cents?
Have you heard about Obama’s plan to build highspeed rail all around America? I just heard about it today. Seems really cool even though it’s probably 75 years away from being complete and 250 years before it’s paid for.
What we’re talking about is a vision for high-speed rail in America. Imagine boarding a train in the center of a city. No racing to an airport and across a terminal, no delays, no sitting on the tarmac, no lost luggage, no taking off your shoes. (Laughter.) Imagine whisking through towns at speeds over 100 miles an hour, walking only a few steps to public transportation, and ending up just blocks from your destination. Imagine what a great project that would be to rebuild America.
Imagine, now keep imagining b/c I predict it won’t happen. If we can’t even roll out a digital tv transition without delays… how’s this gonna happen?
You are our rambunctious, energetic, smart boy and we love you so much. Life would be boring without you in our lives!
Yesterday we had a Thomas the Tank Engine birthday party for Chase and 7 little friends. It was a beautiful day outside, and the party was so much fun! No tantrums or fights! I know that was a lot of kids we invited, but Chase named like 30 kids he wanted to come, so having him invite only a few neighbor friends was fine with me. We were really glad to have 3 adults there, especially having Charlotte to tend to in addition to the party kids. Pace and GG did so much to help out! Pace even drew train tracks going up to our front door, which was so cute. The kids got Thomas party bags and we were glad when they took their high-pitched train whistles back to their OWN houses!
Hopefully Pace will post a funny video of himself beating up the T-Rex pinata after all the kids had tried unsuccessfully to hit it open! Luckily no one got hurt…
In the evening, we had a little family party at the park with Pace’s fam (visiting from NC!) and Rachie and Jess. Chase got even more presents! Thanks everyone!
So a while back Gino mentioned he wanted to go camping during his spring break. I commented I would come with him, really joking b/c we weren’t planning on coming out to CA. Well Grandma T saw it and wanted it to come true. So THANKS Grandparents T for the trip. Gino planned a rigorous 4 day hike over 30 miles of rough, enemy ridden terrain. Luckily that trip got postponed and we planned a nice overnighter on the beach of Tamales Bay.
We had to grab some permits from the ranger station and then we were off. We grabbed some lunch from the Tamales Deli. We parked the truck and unloaded. We made the mistake to throw the gear into the canoe and walk it down to the beach. I think I got a hernia. Anyway we got it into the water and packed evenly then got in one at a time. Everyone recounted the last time they had been in a canoe, except me, I didn’t want to ruin the success rate. After about a 30 minute canoe ride we were across the bay. We scoped out Tamales beach and Marshal beach, ending up at Tamales beach b/c the wind break and better sand. Then we decided to go hiking up the hill that kept us from the ocean. About 1/3 of the way there Gino wimped out and went back to camp to nap. Good thing that 4 day hike got changed. 🙂 Dad and I went to the top and saw the ocean breaking and some cows. We went back down to join Gino for some relaxing. A camp fire, some chili, and some 20 questions later and we were ready for bed. Sleeping for Gino and Dad was great, they were snoring in 5 mins. I however had forgotten to pack a mat, and was not enjoying the ground we picked. I also kept waking up b/c the lack of air in the tent caused lots of condensation to build up and fall back on us. LAME. We woke up, Gino did some sort of hike by himself, I think he walked up half the hill and took a nap. Then we broke camp and took a nice slow paddle back. Grabbed some breakfast at Tamales Bakery and took the shortcut home. It was great. Very relaxing. Thanks for a great trip!
So big fatty McGowan, challenged big fatty me to a weigh off!! Here’s how it works: every year on each of our respective birthdays we get on a scale, the fatter of the two people has to buy dinner. Done, that’s it. Oh and Jason gets a handicap to help his motivation. For the next two years, until we are both 30, Jason gets a 5 lbs handicap. So fatty McG, let the games begin!!!! I’m gonna crush you in 2010.
It was that perfectly gorgeous, green time of year in California when we visited my parents last weekend! Chase was amazingly well-behaved because there was so much to do and different people to hang out with the whole time. Ongoing fun, attention, & entertainment are what that boy loves best!
A Few Highlights:
– We got to spend time together as a family (part of the family). Chase especially loved Uncle Gino, as usual!
– Tractor & 4-wheeler rides
– Grandma and I took Chase to Traintown and to feed the ducks! And he got to have a little Easter candy hunt.
– My two closest high school friends, Jamie and Elisa came to visit, along with cute Sherrie Wiseman.
– We pigged out twice at In ‘n’ Out, my favorite fast food ever!
– We got our teeth cleaned at my dad’s office (and my 2 cavities filled), always a good thing. Thanks Dad!
I’ll let Pace post about the little camping trip the guys went on. Thanks SO much, Parents, for having us! It was a nice break from the usual routine. I’ll post a few more photos soon!
For those of you that don’t have it on your personal reminder app you prob didn’t know it’s my birthday 24 hours from now. And for those of you not inside my head you prob didn’t know I’m having a dessert party Sunday evening at 6:30pm. It is an open invite as all who read this are family or friends. Stop by and grab some dessert and say hi, we don’t have anything else planned besides a dunking booth, pinata, tag, balloon pop game, pin the tale of the donkey, a movie, 1,111 pictures of pace’s life slideshow, Chase impersonating his Dad, and a tribute to Pace by Charlotte. So if you want some treats and good times, come by around 6:30pm, and it would be so nice of you to call Joy between now and then to make sure she has enough for you.
