No more DRM

For those of you who don’t already convert your purchased songs on iTunes to a more user friendly format, there is exciting news from an article on Mac Rumor pages, a deal has been set that will allow higher quality and DRM free music and videos to be sold on iTunes starting in May. While your favorite songs probably won’t be on the list, this does open the door to the future possibility of 100% DRM free music via iTunes.
Will that mean the end of Limewire?

McBlog Update

McBlog gets a face lift! Crazy new retro look! Some of you might not like it I know, but the vote on the sidebar was for a new look, so take it how it is. Some advantages of the new look:

  1. white background and black text for those with bad eyes
  2. Fewer images for those of you with dial-up
  3. Five different flavors
  4. Closer to XHTML compliance
  5. Fluid width for those with high resolutions
  6. There aren’t really any advantages, it’s just pref

You might ask, where is this crazy controversial look? Well, for you traditionalists out there, don’t worry…. the new look is optional!! Woo hoo! Yes please celebrate, this was very annoying to setup, and no I wouldn’t help you do it on your blog. But scroll down the page, look on the LEFT. Pick a flavor and a cookie gets set on your browser to always load that flavor when you visit. Please install Papyrus font if you haven’t. You can always come back to this amazing “Chocolate” theme. (yes named that b/c it’s my favorite).

Let me know what you think! Also if you find any bugs

In addition, I’m changing the rating system (Sat) on the left to a rating system of everything, not just movies. So keep an eye on that, b/c I have a very important Taco Bell product review coming.

Cool Deals

I am a little afraid to post this site, but Ryan showed me Woot.com. They post one item a day and sell it cheap till it’s gone. (But wait, while I was writing this the item changed… does that mean they sold out?) I think that’s a cool idea, apparently I missed out on a G5 gaming mouse for $25 yesterday, not that I’m looking to buy one, but it’s like when the whale comes up out of the ocean and everyone gets to see it but you… anyone else frequent an interesting site like this?

Chase is (almost) a Walking Boy!

Hooray for Chase! He took his first steps alone yesterday! It was so cute and exciting for us first time parents. At church Pace and I took the usual shifts of entertaining Chase out in the hallways during all of church (our little bundle of energy lasts about 2-9 minutes in each meeting and then one of us leaves the room with him for the rest of the hour so that the “Free Spirit”– as Uncle Ryan calls him–can crawl around and explore). But anyway, Pace told me that Chase had taken a step on his own during church, and I couldn’t believe it! Then later when we were at home, Pace motivated Chase with a chocolate cookie (something Chase loves but doesn’t get very often) and he walked a little! It was so funny. Later, Darin and Nada were over and he did it again, but mostly he just dives for the motivational food or sits down and starts crawling toward it. But he’s basically starting to WALK! So that’s exciting.

Chase is really cuter than ever! He is pretty expressive these days, and he says a few little words all the time (uh-oh, hi, bye-bye, bath, ma-ma, wy, eeee, etc.) He sat through an entire half hour movie today for the first time, a fun music DVD that Grandma McC gave him, and he barked and pointed every time he saw a dog in the movie. He also has recently starting signing the word “more” when he wants more food, thanks to Pace’s encouragement (we do a few baby sign language things with Chase to try to make communication easier in the near future). We love being with Chase and enjoying his personality (which is definitely more enjoyable in the daytime than it is in the middle of the night)… Sometimes I check on him when he’s sleeping and I look in that crib and think, “Whoa! He’s so big now!” I also have been exercising extra patience with him lately, mainly during those exhausting diaper changes and other situations that he doesn’t appreciate very much. But later in his life, he’ll THANK me for not letting him sit in a pile of poop all day… right?

Return of the Computer

CompUSA finally finished repairing the computer. After a new mother board and a new HD.. yes I lost all my info.. 🙁 but hey… at least it’s back now and we get all those cool channels from Comcast and the DVR functions, plus the other perks of having a computer hooked up to your 61 inch tv. Tyler eat your heart out!

Chase adds more teeth to the collection!

Yes, folks, it’s true. Our one-year-old little boy now has 4 new teeth (that makes 12 total– that I know of). They are those huge molar ones, two on the top and two on the bottom! He has been pretty grouchy and temperamental lately. Yesterday he had a fever and just wanted to be held and cuddled all day. The day before yesterday was when I discovered the new teeth, and realized that THAT was why he’s been crazy these days! As Pace put it, “Now we know that we don’t have a devil child.”

LOST

What do you think of the new person? Ok so the episode hasn’t aired yet, but we all know from last week that the next 3 episodes will prep us for the big finale. What will happen tonight, and will we care?
I think a new person is coming to the island and it will be someone from Dharma.

American Idol

For the non-lost group, who will be voted off American Idol? I watched parts of it from the computer room…. bleh!! how terrible all of them were. Therefore, since they all stink, I say let the biggest loser win. GO SANJIA!

Tech News

Take anything successful for long enough and Microsoft will want to do it eventually. Up till now the Adobe suite was untouchable (by anyone who wasn’t willing to sell out). But now Microsoft is taking a stab at the Adobe giant. Introducing apps to compete with Photoshop (they already had on that didn’t compete), Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and yes, even Flash and Flash player!! This is an interesting move since one of the nice things about Adobe, was that 99% of developers used it. Therefore standards in code and code alternates were widely available. If the new contender catches on, we might have to start asking, is that flash or silverlight? But hopefully, the better result will be a price tag drop, since the new CS3 is weighing in at $1,799!

What do you think, would you try out Microsoft to save some money? Think they will actually be able to compete?
