Chase has been SOOOOOOO defiant lately, not like that’s anything new but it seems more severe now that he’s 3. It seems like everything throughout the day is a battle, especially any meal time, changing clothes time, sleep time, clean-up time, or coming inside from being outside. Hm, that’s most of the time. So it’s good for me to write down his funny quotes, because he really is a witty little guy and I want to try to focus on the positive with him right now! I know that everyone thinks their kids are funny, but it’s probably because kids really ARE SO funny!
FEBRUARY:
— (holding a cookie): “He says he wants to get in my tummy NOW!”
— (smelling an empty container) “It smells like car mud, and car oil.”
— (we were playing pretend) Me: “What planet are we going to, Chase?” Chase: To Spanish Fork, to see American Idol!”
— “I’m spinning like a carousel!” (high-pitched voice)
— “You’re not my prophet!” (yelled angrily at me, I had to try not to laugh)
— Me: “Chase do you want to read the Fish Out of Water book?” Chase: “No, Daddy doesn’t like that book. We need to sell it to someone.”
— (to me) “Hi Wifeys!”
–“Legendary.” (he heard this word on Kung Fu Panda)
— (asking about my diamond earrings) “Are those real?”
MARCH:
— (walked in the door with Pace) “Thanks for vacuuming, WIFE!”
— Sorry, dear.
— (he was singing to himself in the car) Me: “Would you like me to turn on some music, Chase?” Chase: “No thanks, I already have some.” (and then he continued his singing)
— “WHOA the back of your hair is so beauty-ful!” (my hair was curly)
— “Ohp, silly me.” (he says this a lot)
— (we were making pancakes and he wanted a turn to stir) “Oh, you’re good, you’re good. Let ME stir.”
— Me: “Your body needs cream. It says ‘I need cream'” (<high-pitched) Chase: (looking down at his body, speaking in high-pitched voice): “No, you don’t need cream, body.” (Looking back at me) “I don’t need cream.”
Uncle Tyler brought his longboards over on M Day and Chase was so excited that he got to ride it down the street about 15 times. He fell and crashed one time and immediately looked up to see if we had seen him as you could tell he was expecting someone to say “Ok, told you so. Time to stop.” But we didn’t, we just laughed that we caught his expression in the photo. Thanks Tyler and no he isn’t allowed to get a skateboard.

We’ve been eating a lot less meat and trying to put lots of veggies into our dinners. I like experimenting with new recipes that incorporate vegetables. Some are good, some aren’t. This lasagna isn’t exactly low fat, but it’s my new favorite dinner! Instead of using ground beef, I chopped up & sautéed a bunch of carrots, celery, broccoli, onions, mushrooms, & spinach and mixed it into the sauce. Sooo very tasty.
I was ecstatic to be able to spend a short evening with these ladies recently. There’s something very unique and wonderful about being with people you have known for a long time!!
Jamie & Becky are both friends that I became tight with in adolescence, & have stayed in touch with ever since. We’re all the exact same age, just a few days apart! Becky lives just up north so I get to see her occasionally, but Jamie lives in Boston, so we don’t hang out as much! Jamie & I have been close friends for about 18 years, and my teen years would have been a lot less exciting without her.
Now, we have 10 kids between us… Almost 11 kids, because Becky is pregnant with her #5!!!
Here are a few of the kiddos. Chase & Bryson especially get along amazingly & always pick up right where they left off!
Brynne is 10 months older than Charlotte, & little Eliza’s birthday is 6.5 months after Charlotte’s. Amazing difference in size!
Here are the Wonder Dads, Pace & Dan, with their cute baby girls, Caroline & Emmeline (about 6 months apart).
I love this guy!!
I had to get a few pictures with baby Emme Joy, because her middle name is my first name. (It was windy, I couldn’t keep that hair out of my face!). I loved holding that calm, delightful, soft little chubster.
These are our favorite brownies! Our favorites might not be your favorites. Try these & see! I’m doing this on my phone, so hope it makes sense!
TASTY BROWNIE RECIPE THAT WE LOVE
Melt on stove: 1 c. butter, 1/2 c. cocoa. Take off & cool.
Mix in large bowl or mixer: 2 1/4 c. sugar, 4 eggs. Beat until fluffy, add cooled butter mixture to it.
Mix in small bowl: 1 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 1/2 c flour. Add that to sugar mixture.
Then add 1 tsp vanilla.
Pour into greased 9×13 glass pan, sprinkle chocolate chips on top, bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.
Pace had a fantastic birthday this year! He did have to go to work that day… But his coworkers took him out to the best barbecue in Utah County (5 Star Barbecue) and then we celebrated with fun activities over the next 2 days! He felt very loved when all was said & done.
Speaking of love, he really loved this slice of homemade cheesecake drenched in hot fudge sauce (which we call “chocolate ganache sauce” to make it sound fancier).
Annnd homemade brownies that I whip up & consume more often than I care to admit! They’re our favorite brownies.
Ahh, so many choices!
People thought it was weird that I put out a plate of veggies alongside the desserts… But I knew I’d be munching all evening, so I put those out there so I’d occasionally reach for those rather than another brownie. Tricky, I know!
The helpful munchkins assisted in blowing out the candles.
Handsome, awesome guy. We love you, Pace!
