Our New “Pet”

No, we did not actually get a real pet, and I hope we don’t EVER get a real pet. What we DID get is… A Dyson vacuum! Now, I don’t mean to brag; I’m just really happy with the suction and performance of this thing! And don’t go thinking that this was some sort of impulse purchase; I’ve been researching vacuums for months!

See, I actually enjoy vacuuming, but I have been frustrated with our $70 Bissell vacuum that we bought at Wal Mart (over 3 years ago). I’ll just sum it up by stating that it didn’t do much of anything that a vacuum should do. So lately, Pace and I have been searching the internet, asking people about their vacuums, and browsing Consumer Reports. I initially didn’t think that we should buy a Dyson because 1) Consumer Reports didn’t have it rated as one of the best, and 2) They’re so expensive! No thank you.

But as we talked to people, everyone who had a Dyson said it’s excellent, works perfectly, and they love it. Not many people can say that about their vacuums! So I looked on the Dyson website, and of course, they ranged from like $400-$600. I didn’t want to spend that much. I wasn’t sure, but my wonderful friend Cynthia let us borrow her DC14, and it was so awesome! I vacuumed 2 rooms in our house and the canister was full. Gross, yet satisfying! Then it was time to return it to Cynthia, but I wanted to vacuum the house again, because I didn’t know how long it would be before we would get a new vacuum!

We checked out the Dysons at Sears, and found an awesome sale going on. The vacuum we liked best, the DC14, was on sale for $365! Still quite pricey, but we felt (and still feel) that it’s worth it. After some discussion, negotiation, and “niceness” on Pace’s part, we ended up going back and buying it! And it’s great: Easy to use, great suction, not too heavy, 5-year warranty, no filters or bags to buy, effective on carpet and hard floors, and looks cool, too! Hooray! I love our new pet.

Movie Review: Night at the Museum

This movie was a good date movie. Lots of laughs, more laughs if you are sitting in front of a row of 8 year old girls like we were. I liked it a lot, Joy liked it but classified it as a kid’s movie. I agree kids would laugh more, but it’s still funny even if you hate kids. Go check it out if you’re bored. Anyone else see this? What’d ya think?

Zoom

We watched Zoom last night, a Disney Sony movie that is based on the kid super hero stuff. It was very funny (if you’re 2 or very tired), it had a ton of famous people, and I gather it was one of those where actors have to make x number of movies for a movie company in a year so how about we cram everyone into this one so we can count it as one. It was 200% cheesy and we usually laughed b/c of over the top cheese. One more important thing, Tracy stars in this movie. It was freaky weird sometimes how much this girl looked like Tracy.

Stranger Than Fiction — Movie Review

Wow! TWO BIG THUMBS UP on this one! I loved it. If you are looking for a good movie, grab this one and go into it blind. I had little idea what this movie was about when we started watching it, and I was so so pleased with the outcome. Don’t get your hopes up, this isn’t the next star wars or anything, they actaully didn’t mix a single sound effect into the rear audio track, BUT even with that poor decision, this movie still entertained me more than the last FOUR movies we’ve watched. The only tihng I wish to have seen on the DVD was an alternate ending option

Did you guys see this one? what did you think?

Movie Magic

Two movies to review today. The Illusionist and Invincible. We watched The Illusionist last weekend and I enjoyed it alot! We had no idea what it was just that it had magic in it. Well it turned out to be a chick flick with enough magic to keep me interested. So it worked out great. I highly recommend getting it at the Redbox for a $1 or free. Last night we watched the Disney movie Invincible which is a bit old, but we have a baby so… it was good too, a feel good movie, but one of those you don’t need to watch every week. SO if you are bored this coming week hit the movie place and grab The Illusionist and a significant other, or if you’re feeling down and need some hope besides the Atonement, then grab Invincible. Next on the list is The Prestige… anyone like that one?

My new ebay

This is the coolest website I’ve ever learned about from the 10 o’clock news! PropertyRoom.com sells all the stuff people steal and get caught with, that people never come get b/c they stole it in the first place! Isn’t that cool. You can pick up an Xbox 360 for 250 or a Unix Server for 1.00. Check it out, but men beware, I found myself surfing around for a bit, especially when I saw military items and golf items! 😮

Dyson Root 6

Just thought I’d share this review with you in case anyone thinks of getting this monster.

The Root 6 may look like some sort of pneumatic drill from the future, but its hard-core vacuum lineage makes for a serious sucking machine. This handheld vac easily devoured everything from rocks to bobby pins in our tests. But it’s also extremely noisy, roaring at roughly the same decibel level as an industrial sucker five times its size. What’s more, you only get a paltry six minutes of battery life from a three-hour charge. While suction power is unmatched and the iconic design nets mad style points, miniscule battery life makes the Root 6 ill equipped to pick up little more than an pile of Cheerios. – Erika Stalder

Chase’s New CD

The Black Friday sales weren’t bad around here. I got a few things that we’ve been wanting for a while, for cheap. It was fun, but I can’t say I was as into it as most of the residents of Utah that flooded the stores at 5am if not earlier. Pace was out that early, just because he was still awake, and he said there were people lined up galore outside the stores. A few items I wanted were definitely long gone by the time Rachel, Chase and I straggled in at like 9:30 am. It seems like this would not really be the case, but it appears as though Utahans in general love STUFF!!! Stuff, stuff and more stuff. But one thing I got that I would like to recommend to parents or future parents is this cd I bought for Chase (well, for all of us, really), entitled “A Child’s Prayer.” It’s very peaceful and, as Pace described it, “boring.” But I love it because it makes me feel a little calmer while putting Chase to bed, which is an ordeal since he tends to despise sleep these days. I don’t know if this cd will really make your kids “internalize gospel messages as they fall asleep” as the ad on the Deseret Book website claims, but hey, it’s nice to listen to anyway!

Casino Royale

For everyone who hasn’t already seen it, the new James Bond, Casino Royale

“Casino Royale” is simply amazing. The new actor for James Bond, Daniel Craig, is the best james bond of my lifetime at least. This 007 features the REAL james bond, no super futuristic gadgets, or items that allow James Bond to be super awesome. He just IS awesome.

The part i liked the most about the movie, is that, James Bond wasn’t having sex with every female character he came in contact with. The movie is very clean, considering past James bond movies were full of tons of violence, sex, and language. Off the top of my head i can count 6 cuss words in the entire movie. And the worst violence you saw was the occasional punching and well.. punching. And yes some shooting. (however somone gave a report that it was TOO violent. Well it wasn’t.)

This 007 was also very realistic. He didnt go out and get beaten up, then show up at a bar the next day looking fine.. he’d show up at HQ with cuts over his face, and you could tell he had been fighting. Even days afterwards, he still would have a bandage over a cut he got from a previous fight.

It also has an AMAZING beginning. The first scene shows how this James Bond became a double 0. To do so you must have two kills. And it shows how he did it. The second scene shows 007 chase down this guy on foot, and they do some amazing “urban gymnastics”

In any case, this movie is a must see, ten out of five stars. I saw it last night, and im ready to go see it again. Its definately worth it.
