Parade Pandemonium

On the 4th of July, we went to our neighbors’ house to have crepes at 8 am, before the big parade that goes near our house. Little did we comprehend that this parade was a very big deal in the lives of our fellow citizens. People had been aggressive and dedicated enough to camp out along the parade route up to four days in advance. I would take Chase out on walks and pass by families just sitting there, all day long, in order to reserve their apparently very coveted spots on the grass or sidewalk. On the day of the parade, we chuckled to find that we had a perfect view of this beloved parade, even though we joined in at the moment it began rather than several days prior. We watched this important parade for about 10 minutes, then decided to head home. I hope that, to those diehard fans, it was worth all the effort to have those extra coupons and candy chucked at them.

Happy 4th of July + McUpdate

Well Happy Independence Day! I was very moved today when we sang the star spangled banner. I really really like the less sung 2nd and 3rd verse. So with this post I honor all those who have served and do serve this God blessed country.

McUpdate- We have been busy with life. I’ve been working hard, we have been busy securing BYU.com and creating a business plan to try to make millions off the advertisers trying to reach BYU students. We’ll let you know how that turns out. Thursday and Friday of this week I went up to Park City to help out my buddy from high school, Brad Porterfield, with some photography of a company he works with. That was tons of fun. For anyone who cares, Brad is doing well, although a little thicker 🙂 and is an accountant for a company called MediFast. Meanwhile, Joy is SO happy at home with Chase; she never gets bored. She enjoyed coming to Park City with me on Friday night… Chase is about 14 pounds now and is trying to walk. He doesn’t like falling asleep and is continuing the tradition of soiling his church outfit before church. We also really enjoyed watching fireworks with Mike and Amy and Kaylee on Sat night. In Provo the BYU stadium throws a big fireworks show and we liked it.

P.S. there are a few new photos in the random album that are worth checking out

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

McCharades!!!

Yes it’s time again to play McCharades. Watch Joy in quicktime glory in this edition. Or catch her in the .mpg version. I have to admit, this one is harder b/c I still haven’t guessed it after watching it twice.

Ty’s EFY Experience

Well as pace has said before, here at Mcblog we aim to serve. So in response to a few requests i’m writing about how my EFY went. I went to Buena Vista VA, which after going, i wouldn’t reccomend to anyone. The campus was bad, the campus staff was there setting theyre own rules for EFY members to follow, and it definately was not as good as Gainsville GA. But of course at EFY you have fun no matter how bad things get. So of course it was very spirtiual, very fun, all the people i met were great, and by the end of the week they were my best friends.

On the first day we were supposed to come up with a cheer for the group, no one had any good ideas, so i suggested using the batman song, and shouting our name at the end of it. Everyone liked that idea, and from that moment on everyone called me batman.

Now just for T-mom

What i learned- Always bring earplugs, cause your roomate could be the loudest snorer you’ve ever heard. And that singing the EFY medley on friday is the best part of the whole EFY. (but i knew that from last year)

Who came with me- A bunch of guys from my ward, specifically Johnny W. Michael W. Alex D. and Ethan T. If anyone knows any of them.

Who I flirted with- I flirted with no one, they all flirted with me, duh. But realizing were there for a week, then will only talk to eachother again by internet, text message, or phone, thought that there was no need for more-than-friend relationships.

A Much Needed Date Night!

Last night, Pace and I were able to go out on our own, all by ourselves, for what I believe was the second time since Chase was born. Darin and Nada came over around 9:30 pm, and we sort of asked/told them to watch Chase while we ran to Smith’s for a pie ingredient I needed. I finished feeding Chase, put him in Nada’s arms, and we skittered on out the door. We went to Smith’s to get whipping cream, holding hands and laughing all the way. But don’t worry, the excitement continues! We then decided to go over to Smart Cookie for some cookie ice cream sandwiches and milk (yummm). We sat outside on the lawn, eating and getting “reacquainted.” We even looked at the stars and cuddled for a few minutes (yes, just good old PG-rated cuddling). It was amazing how much closer we felt after that short time without Chase, and it is something I have wanted to do for a while now. I know for sure that date nights and even occasional weekend getaways are essential for the health of a marriage, especially when kids dominate your lives the rest of the time, some tension can build, and couples can slowly grow apart. Soon we’ll probably have a regular date night so that it remains a priority in our lives. I look forward to many more dates to come with my best friend!

Attention

Some loose ends I wanted to post about.

First Congrats to Stephan for getting engaged! He even beat McGowan.

Second, a group of us are playing Ultimate on Saturday (24th) morning at the intermural fields on the corner of university and university, please come and bring any friends you can. We are meeting at 9:45AM and starting to play at 10.

Third, Don’t miss game SEVEN of the stanley cup finals tonight at 8pm eastern on NBC. Winner takes the cup, and to be honest the Hurricanes really need to turn around their gameplay if they are going to win.

Fourth, there are some new pictures in the random album on the mcphotos page.

Fifth, Ryan and Aubrey had their baby, Rhett, on Cotton’s bday! Yeah Aubrey endured 12 hours at the hospital in labor. Read the whole story.

McBalderdash score

The results are in. Everyone did so wonderful with this word. I especially liked the canadian ones. Mainly b/c Canadians are fun to hit around, but secondly b/c a candian team is draging out the stanely cup finals. Also for that reason no Canadian is going to win this Balderdash. But instead Cotton wins it for giving me the mental image of Batman throwing a batarang at the Oilers goalie… well he didn’t really say that, but he mentioned a fat ugly canadian, so…. anyway here is the score break down that doesn’t really matter.
Ryan:300,000 points for slapping canadians, but minus 200,000 for not having an avatar. Brad: 17 points for trying to squeeze out pity. Cotton :1 Million points for the imagery you created in my brain. Steph:700,000 for making me think of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on a day other than Sat morning. Tmom: Lots of points for trying to use something from history, but you lost them all b/c you don’t have an avatar. Rachel:-200 points for not having the huge punch in the face be to a canadian. Joy:900,000 points for using your definition in a sentence.
