Few things come around that alter the commercial space. Giving things away for free that usually cost money, always makes a big splash. (Bless you google). I wanted to update you on this potentially HUGE game changer. If successful one company will provide free internet access across america. Now I’ve talked about this before but the difference is, it’s voting time.
First proposed in 2006, the plan calls for a chunk of airwaves called AWS-3 (now idle) to be used for wireless broadband across the USA. Under terms contemplated by the FCC, the winner of the AWS-3 auction would have to reserve at least 25% of network capacity for free broadband.
The winner would be allowed to charge for other services, including premium broadband that would offer faster speeds.
Assuming there are no last-minute snags, the AWS-3 auction will take place next year.
That’s AWESOME! That means all your devices will have network capabilities. So those outragous prices for mobile data plans, those always fluctuating comcast internet bills, the lame DSL speeds, will all have to compete with FREE. So, is anyone else excited about this?
