Chrome Browser

I switched to using Chrome 100% of the time last week, and I love it! I was using Firefox for most of my browsing and Chrome as a secondary, mainly b/c I was used to the keyboard shortcuts and plugins. When Firefox started lagging on me real bad, I decided I would switch and I am so glad I did. I quickly learned the new keyboard shortcuts for the things I needed and I found a wealth of extensions that are awesome!

For example: For years I’ve had my google tasks list up as a pinned tab for quick access to my to do list, but now it’s in an awesome extension that works better than a tab! My favorite was in the extensions part of the app store they have a “by Google” section where lots of good stuff was waiting.

Then there are Chrome Apps. I found that most of the “Chrome Apps” were just glorified bookmarks. Which is cool, then your favorite places don’t get lost in a page of recently visited things, and they get pretty icons. Well, since I’m a nerd and I know how much the 13 people who read this love pretty things, I thought Why not make a McBlog Chrome App!? So I did!

This is what it looks like when I open a new tab. Notice the nifty McBlog button on the bottom right?
What’s that you say, you want it too? Ok no problem. Here’s the two easy steps.
If you already use Chrome skip step one and proceed directly to step 2.

  1. Install and use Chrome
  2. Install the McBlog Chrome App

Bam isn’t that fun! It’s really just a pretty bookmark, but it was fun to learn the process of how to get an app into the Chrome Store. Plus if Chase/Charlotte ever start coding things it will probably end up in some app store so the experience was fun. If I’m really bored or if anyone asks, I’ll post a how to since it’s really easy after you figure out the documentation. You can also install as many as you want on your own macine without having to publish them to the store.

Binky Helper

We had the priviledge to have Katie & Bracken stop by and spend the night. Maverick and Caroline were having a good time bonding. Caroline’s motherly instincts kicked in and she started taking Mav’s binky in and putting it back, but she usually missed and hit his face. Enjoy:

Anyone want to attend some free training?

“We are going to be holding a Crucial Accountability (a revised versions on Crucial Confrontations) 2 day training November 27th and 28th. If you would like to attend, or if you have any friends or family who would like to attend, please let me know and get me their names and email addresses by Friday November 16th.”

“This course is for you if you’ve been disappointed by others’ performance and want to be able to hold them accountable in a way that’s both firm and respectful. Or if you’re tired of working in an environment where goals are set and assignments are given, and then people treat their assignments as rough guidelines rather than firm commitments. Or perhaps in your own work group failed deadlines are met with hostile looks and vague comments instead of honest, direct discussion. In short, if you want to learn how to hold others accountable, or as a leader you want to help create a culture where everyone speaks honestly, clearly, and respectfully about violated expectations, this course is your next logical choice.”

All you instagram users

Hey all you instagram users out there, did you hear the big news? All your photos will be available via the internet. Yes! That’s awesome, I’ve been waiting for that! I know, it’s exciting. This is my public service announcement. Make sure you know that your photos will not be shared with just your friends and only on their devices anymore! For example: http://instagram.com/fabric311/ is the public profile of my older brother. I can see all his photos. I have to login to favorite, follow, or comment; But you can look all you want. I have not found any settings to limit this new public profile, but my account has not been upgraded yet. Anyone sen how to limit this new “feature” for those who would like to?

Mutton Bustin!

We visited the Santa Rosa County Fair, there were lots of fun things and I’m sure Joy might talk about all of them later. The most important thing was a Mutton Busters group had setup camp on one end of the fair. After watching the noon show Chase said he wanted to try his hand at Mutton Busting.

For those not familiar, kids between the age of 4-7 weighing less than 60lbs get put on a sheep who’s been separated from the flock. When the door opens the sheep runs to the other end of the ring where the rest of the flock is. The kid holds on to the wool as long as possible. Whichever kid who holds on the longest wins. In the noon show the winner was on about 5 seconds and most rides last less then that.

Chase was up against two other kids, the first one didn’t last long enough to get a score, and the second kid was on about 5 seconds and scored 85. So Chase needed 86 or higher to win. Check out the video to see what happened

The Dirty Dash

We ran the dirty dash which I heard is a 10k but my wife says is a 5.5 mile run, I don’t know how many miles 1k is nor do I care as I don’t run. But I do play in filthy nasty stinky mud. We all had a blast at this once in a lifetime experience. We will not be going again with a bunch of little kids. Our favorite parts included the giant water slide, the giant pits of mud, and watching Chase realize that he could throw as much mud as he wanted to without getting yelled at.

I’m sure Joy would have more commentary, but I’m writing this post so… here’s a photo slideshow
