For the past week Chase has been called Darth Vader b/c of the bad cough and wheezing he has had. As a result of his sickness we haven’t slept much. Last night around 2am or sometime I don’t really know. Chase wouldn’t stop crying. So I grabbed him and was going to take him outside, but I remembered it’s freezing outside at night now. So instead I went downstairs, as soon as he saw the tv he said ‘tb’. He sat completely still for two episodes of Curious George… this really is my son, can’t sleep so he watches tv. So he finally went to sleep a bit after we finished that. Check out the new McVideo to see us battling it out when we finally woke up.

Dear Santa
Yes this is geeky, and yes this will be the number one thing on a geeks Christmas list. Lego just released the MOTORIZED AT-AT. Yes folks, it walks forward or backward into battle. Comes with grappling hook hanging Luke Skywalker! Probably the sweetest toy Chase could possibly get this year… and of course I would be willing to help him play with it put it together. We just had a great weekend, hopefully Joy will post details later. I’ll be working on the videos.
What’s on your Christmas list already?
Toddler Therapy Time
This morning, I broke the usual routine of playing outside all morning by taking Chase to “Music and Movement” time at the Springville City Library. It’s a 30 minute program for toddlers (ages 18 months to 3 years old) in which some volunteers lead the group in singing, rhymes, and dancing. It was so funny to watch Chase staring at the other kids, following their motions, running around the room, going in front of the group to try to lead them, etc. He is on the younger end of the group, seeing as how he’s not quite 18 months old yet, but he’s close enough (3 weeks away). We had fun indoors, then went out to play on the playground
and with the lifelike bronze statues of children in action (I took photos but Pace is putting Vista on our computer so everything is kind of misplaced at the moment.)
So how could I have been gone all morning when he usually naps at that time, you ask? Well, I think it’s official: He’s down to one nap now. This is fine with me; however, it’s not fine when it only lasts one hour like it did yesterday. Hopefully it’s just short because he’s in transition from 2 naps to 1, because I will not be very thrilled to have only one hour to do everything I need to for the day, including all my customer service work! I may have to quit that side job…
I invited a few of our neighbor friends to tag along for the morning, but no one else wanted to participate in the fun and games, so we just went and met new people there. I felt comfortable with everyone else, except that I wanted to videotape some parts, but I felt like the other moms would chuckle at this first-time mom videotaping her precious little angel. But I will just do it anyway next week because it was pretty entertaining. I just want our family and friends in “distant lands” to be able to see how much fun Chase can be sometimes!
Chase the Little Helper
I just thought I’d mention that Chase is talking up a storm lately! It’s so cute, even though half the time we have no idea what he’s saying. But he seems to know what he’s talking about! His newest words are variations of lawnmower, vacuum, bath time, etc. He is so much fun these days, and still so active!
Chase also really likes to be assigned tasks to help out with things. So lately, if Pace is downstairs in the office room, he’ll write me a note and tell Chase to go give it to me. Chase will diligently seek me out and give me the note, wherever I am in the house. We are going to get fat because we don’t have to actually get up and walk to each other to talk; we just give a note to Chase and he gets it there safe and sound. 🙂 What a good life we have!
Chase is a Big Boy Now!
This is pretty random. I was just looking through some photos tonight and I couldn’t believe how much Chase has grown over the past 14.5 months of his life! I’ve really realized lately that he looks and seems more like a kid than a baby nowadays. He’s just not the big, chubby baby he used to be– now he’s tall and rather lean compared to the other babies in his age group. I guess we can’t go back in time– except when we look at the photos! Part of me is really okay with not going back in time, though, especially when I think about the sleep I wasn’t getting back then… But wasn’t he a cute baby!?!

Chase’s Face
Chase has a new funny face he likes to make (click on the image to enlarge it… and ignore his scraped up nose from falling on his face.) We call this facial expression the “crazy clown face” because that’s what it resembles. He raises his eyebrows, squints his eyes, and opens his mouth. He does it when he thinks he’s being funny or when someone else is being funny. Sometimes he imitates a sound that one of us makes, and then he does this crazy smile. It’s rather entertaining. Chase has also gone to one nap instead of two, which was a surprise all of a sudden for me! He goes down between 12 and 1, and sleeps for 1-2 hours. He loves drinking juice, and gets all giddy when I give him juice instead of water. His favorite foods are popcorn, cheese, scrambled eggs, and anything sweet– he eats all day, and it amounts to almost as much as I eat! Usually he has a snack and then about 20 minutes later he does the sign for “more.” I guess it’s because he’s so mobile on his feet these days! He is clingy to Mama lately, but he’ll give other people kisses on the cheek if they’re lucky (Boston, a kid Rachel babysits, taught him that one). Chase has also been saying a few new words, one of which is hello (“heh-whoa”) which he says only on pretend phones, not real ones.

For those of you who can’t visit as often as you like, there are two new videos of Chase. Click on McVideos on the left nav bar.
Chase likes dancing
Getting it from his mother, Chase has taken up dancing anytime he hears music. Even when the phone rings. It’s very funny, he usually sits and waves his arms faster than the human eye can record. This video catches a rare crawl position dance move, if he were a teenager I think it would be called ‘freaking’ or something.
