Chase-isms

Kids say the darndest things, and sometimes I actually remember to jot down a few things that Chase has said that make me smile. Here are the ones I wrote down last month:

– “My mommy was tough at the doctor’s office.”

– “Sometimes I’m shy.”

– “Want to hear the funny song I made up?”

– (very sternly) “No, I’M in charge.”

– (running to the toilet all by himself, with one arm raised up in the air): “Because I’m SuperChase to the rescue!!!”

– “Check THIS out!” (and then he does some sort of stunt)

– (in a strained voice) “My body hurts from exercising. But exercising is great for me to do.”

– “Someone went poop on Daddy’s shovel.” (Pace’s shovel was caked with mud)

– (sniffed me) “You smell like FLOWER TREATS!”

– “Settle down. Take a chill pill.” (he’s heard that from Daddy once or twice)

– (I touched underneath his chin) “That’s my injury apple. Please don’t poke it.”

Just Relax, Honey.

At this point in Chase’s life, Pace and I have never been more frustrated, nor more “charmed” by him. His strong personality and sense of humor keep us on our toes; sometimes we laugh and lots of other times Chase is sitting on time out for his little attitude. Here’s a funny example showcasing Chase’s personality, “this just in” from this morning.

Scenario: Chase and I were sitting at the little black table in his room, coloring (which lasted about 3 minutes as usual). He got out the white crayon and started scribbling on the black table, so I told him not to do that because we color on paper and not on the furniture. He said it’s the only way the white crayon will work. I told him again not to color on there, and he just shook his head and said softly, “Just relax, honey.”

Oh my. Who IS this kid!?!? I think he’s just heard this line from his daddy lately, since mommy has been flipping out and dealing with contractions, etc. Good times!

Update on the Chase Boy

See that cute little guy up there? (<referring to Chase) He is 2 1/2 and he definitely acts his age. He has been keeping us on our toes lately with his constant questions and contradicting what we say. To sum it up, Chase is entertaining, opinionated, curious, talkative, clever, energetic, and wild. So far, he’s been such a challenge in our lives (especially in the SLEEP department) yet he’s been such a joy. It really is true that children are the most difficult yet the most rewarding undertaking in life!

In less than a month now, we’re going to be entering a new phase of life– having another child join our family. I’m feeling a little pensive or anxious or something… but mostly I am freaking out! I can’t even imagine having another little one to take care of– please let her be a calm little one, and a good sleeper!!! We have plenty of energy and excitement in the house with Chase as it is! He has been really excited all along about having a baby sister, and we just hope that will continue after she actually arrives!

For now, Chase has me all to himself all day, and he LOVES helping me bake and cook in the kitchen (he’s always very careful and methodical– I love it)!

And by the way, here are a few of Chase’s latest "creations" (that I actually thought to snag photos of)! He loves lining things up, counting them, rearranging them, etc.

–Pennies and tokens on stairs:

–Fruit snacks on chairs (I’m sad that he’s grown out of calling them "Shoot nats"):

And just today I pulled back the covers of our bed to find this nice little death trap:

Very clever, Chase!!! 🙂
