Please, please, please…

Time to be nerdy! Also, if you like investing in sure things… dump as much as you can into Blizzard. They have changed their website into some kind of countdown image. First was a big picture of Warcraft, then Warcraft II and now Diablo. All leading to a ? game… is anyone else wetting their pants hoping it’s Starcraft 2? Hopefully the greatest real time strategy game maker of all time isn’t yanking our chain.
Thoughts?

No more DRM

For those of you who don’t already convert your purchased songs on iTunes to a more user friendly format, there is exciting news from an article on Mac Rumor pages, a deal has been set that will allow higher quality and DRM free music and videos to be sold on iTunes starting in May. While your favorite songs probably won’t be on the list, this does open the door to the future possibility of 100% DRM free music via iTunes.
Will that mean the end of Limewire?

Cool Deals

I am a little afraid to post this site, but Ryan showed me Woot.com. They post one item a day and sell it cheap till it’s gone. (But wait, while I was writing this the item changed… does that mean they sold out?) I think that’s a cool idea, apparently I missed out on a G5 gaming mouse for $25 yesterday, not that I’m looking to buy one, but it’s like when the whale comes up out of the ocean and everyone gets to see it but you… anyone else frequent an interesting site like this?

Return of the Computer

CompUSA finally finished repairing the computer. After a new mother board and a new HD.. yes I lost all my info.. 🙁 but hey… at least it’s back now and we get all those cool channels from Comcast and the DVR functions, plus the other perks of having a computer hooked up to your 61 inch tv. Tyler eat your heart out!

Tech News

Take anything successful for long enough and Microsoft will want to do it eventually. Up till now the Adobe suite was untouchable (by anyone who wasn’t willing to sell out). But now Microsoft is taking a stab at the Adobe giant. Introducing apps to compete with Photoshop (they already had on that didn’t compete), Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and yes, even Flash and Flash player!! This is an interesting move since one of the nice things about Adobe, was that 99% of developers used it. Therefore standards in code and code alternates were widely available. If the new contender catches on, we might have to start asking, is that flash or silverlight? But hopefully, the better result will be a price tag drop, since the new CS3 is weighing in at $1,799!

What do you think, would you try out Microsoft to save some money? Think they will actually be able to compete?

Science proves I’m not lazy

A recent study from the Neilsen group proves that I am not a heavy gamer… not even close actually.

Among the study’s other findings were that two-thirds of all men aged 18-34 have access to a video game console in their homes, and that in any given minute of the day, about 1.6 million people in the United States are using a video game console. The top 20 percent of heavy-usage gamers, meanwhile, average a whopping 5 hours and 45 minutes of usage per day, according to the report.

See honey, my two three four hours a week is such a small amount! 🙂 The study also reports that the number of game consoles is increasing in the US, and that a new breed has been born which they call, “The Gamer Family”. I think that’s good, why let your kid play for hours alone…?.. join em! Would you play video games with your kids or just let em play by themselves?

To megapixel or not?

“Recent announcements from major camera makers have offered a parade of a slim, pocket-friendly models with resolution of 9, 10, even an unholy 12 megapixels. Thats about the same, if not more pixels, than the average SLR digicam.

Now if you believe the teeny little pink thing in your purse is going to capture images of anywhere near comparable quality to even a low-end SLR, I’ve got a war of national liberation you might wanna buy.

That’s because cramming all those pixels into a slim case means shrinking the image sensor. That means shrinking the individual pixels/photo sites and/or the spaces between them. The result is noise, which become more and more obvious the closer you come to viewing photos at actual size.

Our recommendation: Don’t buy a point-and-shoot without visit a camera weenie site such as DP Review, where you’ll find comprehensive camera specs that include the size of the image sensor. Anything with a denominator (the number under the “1/” for you high school math dropouts) larger than 1.8 inches means you’ll likely be sacrificing quality for portability and pixels you don’t actually need, unless you happen to be in the billboard business.”

Do you agree? What megapixel camera do you have? Do you think there is a point of diminishing returns?

It’s a male tradition that dates back to Cain… er Noah… anyway, Cotton has not been able to join in the latest wave of Battelfield 2 mania b/c he owns a mac. Check this out though!!

Alright tech geniuses, howd this guy do it and can we do it on Cotton’s mac?</strong
