Thanks for playing

The other night we played a game of RISK 2210, I really enjoyed it after all the whining stopped. It had been about 4 years since I played, and I remembered how fun it was. I just wanted to publicly thank Jason for not bidding three tokens to get the first turn away from me, that was the only reason I won! THANKS can’t wait for the rematch. I also found this flash demo that clears up some thing on how to start the game… and other things, like getting cards when you take over three territories. Guess we’ll all have to read the rules before the next time.

Trials into Stength

Turning Trials and weaknesses into strengths.

If thou art called to pass through tribulation; if thou art in perils among false brethren; if thou art in perils among robbers; if thou art in perils by land or by sea;

If thou art accused with all manner of false accusations; if thine enemies fall upon thee; if they tear thee from the society of thy father and mother and brethren and sisters; and if with a drawn sword thine enemies tear thee from the bosom of thy wife, and of thine offspring, and thine elder son, although but six years of age, shall cling to thy garments, and shall say, My father, my father, why can’t you stay with us? O, my father, what are the men going to do with you? and if then he shall be thrust from thee by the sword, and thou be dragged to prison, and thine enemies prowl around thee like wolves for the blood of the lamb;

And if thou shouldst be cast into the pit, or into the hands of murderers, and the sentence of death passed upon thee; if thou be cast into the deep; if the billowing surge conspire against thee; if fierce winds become thine enemy; if the heavens gather blackness, and all the elements combine to hedge up the way; and above all, if the very jaws of hell shall gape open the mouth wide after thee, know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good.

The Son of Man hath descended below them all. Art thou greater than he?

Therefore, hold on thy way, and the priesthood shall remain with thee; for their bounds are set, they cannot pass. Thy days are known, and thy years shall not be numbered less; therefore, fear not what man can do, for God shall be with you forever and ever. –D&C 122

And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them. –Ether 12:27

McUpdate

Well, we have been busy here in our lil planet. After working everyday after work, till bed, the downstairs room is finally finished. That was the second most tiring two weeks of my life. Baby Chase still holds the record… Joy is very happy it is done, and is already reminding me what else is on my to-do list. No rest for the wicked I guess… McMom has been here a week and helped us out a ton already, Ty just came in yesterday. We saw Transformers today. It was good. Last night we went to the STADIUM of fffiiiirrreeee, Chase did really well until 15 mins before the firework show, so we left. Thanks to the Drapers for the tickets. This weekend we plan on playing some capture the flag, and shooting off fireworks, and hanging out. Aight I’m tired and going to bed.

Success

This week I’m trying a new format, instead of typing out my lesson, which took a really long time… I’m going to point out some highlights for you to nibble on.
Success through reliance on the Lord.
Start by chewing on these: “With the help of the Lord I will do the best I can, and… with His help I have no fear at all but what I can get along” – Heber J. Grant
“Be thou humble; and the Lord they God shall lead thee by the hand, and give thee answer to thy prayers.” – D&C 112:10
Also, D&C 30:1-3 and 3 Nephi 13:33.

“I remember as a young man I had $50.00 in my pocket on one occasion which I intended to deposit in the bank. When I went on Thursday morning to fast meeting—the fast meeting used to be held on Thursdays instead of Sundays—and the bishop made an appeal for a donation, I walked up and handed him the $50.00. He took five of it and put it in the drawer and gave the $45.00 back to me and said that was my full share.

I said, “Bishop Woolley, by what right do you rob me of putting the Lord in my debt? Didn’t you preach here today that the Lord rewards fourfold? My mother is a widow, and she needs $200.00.”

He said, “My boy, do you believe that if I take this other $45.00, you will get your $200.00 quicker?”

I said: “Certainly.”

Well, he took it.

While walking from fast meeting to the place where I worked, an idea popped into my head. I sent a telegram to a man asking him how many bonds of a certain kind he would buy at a specified price within forty-eight hours. … He wired back that he wanted as many as I could get. My profit on that transaction was $218.50.

The next day I walked down to the bishop and said: “Bishop, I made $218.50 after paying that $50.00 donation the other day and so I owe $21.85 in tithing. I will have to dig up the difference between $21.85 and $18.50. The Lord did not quite give me the tithing in addition to a four to one increase” (Presidents of the Church [Religion 345 student manual], pp. 176–77).

Chase is a Big Boy Now!

This is pretty random. I was just looking through some photos tonight and I couldn’t believe how much Chase has grown over the past 14.5 months of his life! I’ve really realized lately that he looks and seems more like a kid than a baby nowadays. He’s just not the big, chubby baby he used to be– now he’s tall and rather lean compared to the other babies in his age group. I guess we can’t go back in time– except when we look at the photos! Part of me is really okay with not going back in time, though, especially when I think about the sleep I wasn’t getting back then… But wasn’t he a cute baby!?!

Retreat from the Regular Routine

My special place
I got back today from a nice little Stake Relief Society Retreat. It was an overnight event, even though only like 20 people actually camped there (our homes were only 15 minutes away so most people just went home, then came back in the a.m.). I felt privileged to go to this event, especially because hardly anybody does this type of thing. It was up in Hobble Creek Canyon, at Jolley’s Ranch– such a beautiful area– I only wish we had had some sort of hiking/exercise time to explore the place a little during our stay! A lady in my ward brought her bike and rode around in the morning before breakfast, which was pretty smart of her. I’ll do that next year. But it was fun; lots of hanging out, fresh air, musical numbers, good food, and classes/speakers. The various classes were either spiritual, informative, or crafty, or a mixture of any of those. One of the classes I took was a CPR class that was really informative, because the ratios have been simplified to just one (30:2 ratio of compressions to ventilations, for all ages). Anyway, thank you to McMom and Pace for watching Chase so I could get away for this experience, and to Pace for “making me” spend the night (although it was not a very warm or comfortable night–it didn’t help that before bed we were discussing all the recent local bear sightings and the mauling of the poor little boy by that crazy bear). I really felt like I bonded with women from my ward and stake, and I also had a very uplifting experience. I think that every stake should do this sort of thing– I’m convinced that it makes us better women/wives/moms!

By the way, the photo shown here is not really from the retreat; I didn’t even bring my camera. Pace took this beautiful photo in Dec. 2005 in the redwoods at my parents’ property. Just wanted to give credit where credit was due!

Aint no kindergarden game

You are all invited this coming Friday to play Capture the flag!! Woo hoo, I haven’t played since Chase came into my schedule. And I’m really excited to play. This Friday I’m gathering a group of people to play at our local park. We will be playing Southern backwoods style, ie side 1 side 2 – no other boundaries, no flag sitting, and releasable jails. Full camo is recommended, but not required. My neighbor said he is bringing his night vision. We are gathering at 8:30pm if you want to play, please come.

iPhone or iBroke?

Ok so if you live in America, I don’t know how you wouldn’t know the iPhone is coming out tom. I’m sick and tired of hearing about this phone. If WWII was allowed to have as much propaganda as this phone, women and children would have wanted to join up. So anyway, if you’ve ever been tempted at all to think about buying one, good you should have, but NOT NOW! WAIT FOR THE SECOND VERSION! If you think about it, buying an iPhone tom, or soon, is over a $3000 commitment! You commit to be on the worst network in cell phones for 2 years, at $60 a month for voice and $40 a month for data, PLUS $600 for the phone itself. Before that contract is over, a second model, probably with fewer bugs, better features and prob a lil cheaper will come out.

Now I’m not hating the iPhone, actually I love the fact that most phones that will come out after will have similar features, I love that it’s a widescreen video iPod. I love that it has a feature rich internet browser. What I want to point out, are the things I don’t love about it, that maybe you haven’t thought about. So what do you think? What do you like about this revolutionary phone? What don’t you like?
