September is Over!

What have we been up to?

Well. Life has been busy and good. We’ve been enjoying these warm October days. This summer weather can stay as long as it wants to!

We went to 2nd cousin Katelin’s 6th birthday party! We loved all the sugar we got to have there.

Chase and Charlotte have mainly just been busy being cute.

Chase loves to create things. Especially his own concoctions and recipes in the kitchen that make a HUGE mess. I just hyperventilate, that’s all. I don’t want to curb his creativity, but MAN our kitchen has just been trashed lately. Sometimes it’s good that Chase is so eager and curious because it motivates us to make cute things like these wheat pancakes.

Yesterday we made a volcano together with play dough, (add baking soda & vinegar to make it erupt), which was really fun. That was one of the tidier projects he’s done, along with the Lego one below. I love seeing what he builds.

We have also been spending money, which stresses me out. I’ve bought some new clothes for the kids, including some snow clothes. Today I found some good deals at 7 Circles Outlet in Orem. But kids are expensive, I’ve decided.

So are houses! We had to buy a new garbage disposal and Pace chose and put in a new kitchen faucet as well. I love it. Yay for Costco being way cheaper than Lowe’s! And yay for Pace knowing how to perform such intense home repairs! He does a TON around the house. I can’t believe his skills—how did I catch such a guy??

Chase enjoys preschool almost as much as I enjoy having him at preschool. I went with his class to the pet store for their monthly field trip. Chase & Charlotte were both very brave, petting the snakes, iguana, the hyper chinchilla, etc. Chase loved this blue parrot that kept vigorously flapping its wings.

We Love Play Dough

OK I’m sure everyone already knows how to make homemade play dough.  I’ve tried a few recipes myself. But I want to share this one because it makes a very soft, low-mess play dough. It’s my favorite recipe so far because it doesn’t stick to the counter much like some of the other recipes I’ve tried!

Play Dough Recipe

2 c. Flour
½ c. Salt
2 c. Water
2 T. Vegetable Oil
¼ c. Cream of Tartar (found in spice section)

Pour all ingredients into a large saucepan. Food coloring can be added here if desired, 5-7 drops. Turn to med-high heat and stir constantly until the mix becomes very warm and starts to form together, about 3-5 minutes. Do not over heat, it will burn. Continue stirring until the mix forms into a playdough ball. Remove from heat and pour ball onto a wax paper sheet. Let cool for a few minutes and then knead until soft, 2-3 minutes. Food coloring can also be added during the kneading process as well, especially if you want to split the dough and use 2 or more colors. I suggest wearing baggies over your hands if doing this. Store your play dough in a ziplock bag and in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 months, or until little white spots develop.

End of a Fabulous Season!

If you’re sick of us posting about soccer, have no fear. This may very well be the last post about it for a while, since we just had our last game on Saturday! It definitely dominated our lives for a month, because the games were held twice a week. But it was a great season! Pace undertook quite the job when he volunteered to coach the team. But the kids loved him, and I think Pace was glad he did it, after all.

Below are some photos I took when they were taking individual and team shots that you could order. I decided to just do our own shots Unfortunately, two girls didn’t make it for the team photo, but we won’t ever forget them. Smile

Below they’re doing a team cheer they did after each game. Also, Pace distributed their gold medals after the last game, telling each one how they were important to the team. He said he hadn’t intended to do that, but he had to continue with each child after he’d started. To one particular kid who never paid attention and constantly wrapped his shirt over his head and such, Pace said, “You were…. memorable.” All the parents laughed, because it was true!

Chase always enjoyed the team “snacks” that were distributed by different parents after each game. These were no orange slices, folks. They were full-on junk food/desserts. But hey, the kids loved them!

Remember the time

Hey, remember when Cotton came to Utah? This is what he looked like when he got here. It’s really a miracle, now he’s walking pretty normal. Some of you might say this is embarrassing, but I’m not posting to say look at the freak, I’m saying WOW, this is amazing! I found this old video on my computer while cleaning files off and thought this is an example of hard work and faith paying off. Many, many nights we prayed that he would not be stuck in a wheelchair his whole life. And I watched as Cotton worked hard everyday to increase flexibility and push himself past using canes and all of that; so when I saw this I was really proud and grateful.

Ahh memories.

Soccer Goal

Chase has scored a lot this soccer season, and we are so proud of how hard he plays. We’re glad if he runs the whole game really, but on some occasions we are really proud. If you didn’t get a chance to come see him play, just watch this clip 12 times and that’s pretty much a game.

Update, here’s one from Grandaddy’s angle.

Memories

My mother came over tonight with a couple of items from her treasure box. The treasure box is a pile of stuff she wanted to keep from when we were kids. Some of the items she brought over were not labeled, so without further introduction, here are some poems which are probably by me at age unknown:

Place

It is very strange, this place of mine,
it is a place of dim sunlight.
My place is a wonderful place.
Where you go to fly jets,
shoot at enemy spys,
or kill the bad guys.
You can go flying through the air,
and land anywhere.
You can stay all day,
but you have to wake up with the sun rays.

Mom

Mom makes me laugh
Mom makes lots of crafts,
Mom lets me go and roll.
Mom likes to make bread
but can’t do it on her own.
Mom has a million recipes,
three boxes it’s true.
Mom burn food, no way,
just a little dark.
“Mom, lower your voice.
What’s for dinner? Make a choice.”
“What looks good?”
“I don’t care.”
“Good night. I love you.”
“Ditto, Mom.”

What’s up with Sat night?

Charlotte hates Saturday night. Each week while we are going over the calendar Charlotte walks up to the calendar, reaches into her diaper and smears poop on Saturday night. Last night was the norm. She woke up around midnight and cried for a few hours off and on, then Daddy came in around 3am to hang out and she was fine.

Google Video Updates

“If you use video chat in Gmail, you might be interested in a new Labs feature we just rolled out that allows you to preview new video chat features before they’re turned on for everyone. Visit the Gmail Labs tab under Settings, turn on “Video chat enhancements,” and right away, you’ll see higher resolution video and a bigger video chat window.

The higher resolution video uses a new playback mechanism which enables widescreen VGA and frees up valuable resources on your computer. For it to work, both you and the person you’re chatting with will need to have the lab turned on. Remember that you can always revert to standard video chat by disabling the lab.”

How do you do that? Login at gmail.com, look for this, , in the upper right hand corner of the screen, click it. Scroll to the bottom and click enable next to “Video chat enhancements”.

Lets chat!

Music Taste

While Joy posts about her dessert tastes, I’d like to mention this awesome tid bit from yesterday. Chase said that this was his favorite song, and that he loved it.

Three Dog Night’s, Old Fashioned Love Song… yeah an oldie. I thought it was SO great that this 4 year old wanted to rock out to music his Grandparents listened to. At least I’ve done something right.

Actually, whenever Chase rides with me he asks to stop on the oldies station. He says he likes it the most. I try to rotate around the stations and tell him what the different types of music are. So far he prefers Oldies, RAP, and Heavy Metal…. weird kid. Must get the RAP and Heavy Metal from his mother.
