Our Cabin Getaway

You didn’t know we had a cabin, did you? Actually, the cabin belongs to some friends in our ward, but we were lucky to “get away” and spend the night there with some other couples last weekend! Scott and Danette own a cabin in Mount Pleasant, which is an hour south of here, in the middle of gorgeous nowhere. THANKS to Darin, Nada, and McGrandaddy and then later Rachel, we were able to leave Chase at home so we could have some time to eat and play games and laugh all night with some friends from the ward. The green surroundings were amazing, and the whole experience was so relaxing. Well, AFTER we finally found the place it was relaxing… It took us about 2 hours to get there, because the directions were a little outdated. But it was worth it to stay at this cozy place and to just hang out together! We even got to have a room to ourselves. It was nice to sleep in the next morning (even though it was only ’til about 8:30 a.m. that we could manage to do so) and not even worry about Chase. As it turns out, he didn’t seem to care too much that we were gone! Upon our arrival home, he just sat there drinking his juice and looking around, as if he were saying “ho hum, oh yeah I remember you guys.” Oh well! Anyway, hopefully I can get some photos up here so you can see some highlights of the little trip.

Fancy Breakfast Date

We have tons to write about, but so little time lately. One thing I wanted to write about was our fun little breakfast date at Pace’s work (Novell) a week ago. Chase and I met up with Pace at 9 am and went to the dining building (I don’t want to label it a cafeteria because that sounds like it would be gross). The special of the morning was crunchy french toast with creme brulee, strawberries, and whipped cream. The french toast was crunchy because it was dipped in corn flakes– clever idea, huh? It was pretty tasty, although the creme brulee sauce wasn’t as noticeable as I had anticipated.

Chase enjoyed the occasion as well! We went to the juke box in the corner, where “The Candy Man” was playing (from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). Chase danced in such a whimsical fashion that several bystanders stopped to watch the “show.” It was pretty funny. We got to wander through the beautiful Novell campus with its green lawns and the flowing stream. Chase would have preferred to swim in the stream, but that wasn’t my preference for him. A good time was had by all! Thanks for inviting us out to breakfast, Pace!

Dear Santa

Yes this is geeky, and yes this will be the number one thing on a geeks Christmas list. Lego just released the MOTORIZED AT-AT. Yes folks, it walks forward or backward into battle. Comes with grappling hook hanging Luke Skywalker! Probably the sweetest toy Chase could possibly get this year… and of course I would be willing to help him play with it put it together. We just had a great weekend, hopefully Joy will post details later. I’ll be working on the videos.

What’s on your Christmas list already?

Toddler Therapy Time

This morning, I broke the usual routine of playing outside all morning by taking Chase to “Music and Movement” time at the Springville City Library. It’s a 30 minute program for toddlers (ages 18 months to 3 years old) in which some volunteers lead the group in singing, rhymes, and dancing. It was so funny to watch Chase staring at the other kids, following their motions, running around the room, going in front of the group to try to lead them, etc. He is on the younger end of the group, seeing as how he’s not quite 18 months old yet, but he’s close enough (3 weeks away). We had fun indoors, then went out to play on the playground
and with the lifelike bronze statues of children in action (I took photos but Pace is putting Vista on our computer so everything is kind of misplaced at the moment.)

So how could I have been gone all morning when he usually naps at that time, you ask? Well, I think it’s official: He’s down to one nap now. This is fine with me; however, it’s not fine when it only lasts one hour like it did yesterday. Hopefully it’s just short because he’s in transition from 2 naps to 1, because I will not be very thrilled to have only one hour to do everything I need to for the day, including all my customer service work! I may have to quit that side job…

I invited a few of our neighbor friends to tag along for the morning, but no one else wanted to participate in the fun and games, so we just went and met new people there. I felt comfortable with everyone else, except that I wanted to videotape some parts, but I felt like the other moms would chuckle at this first-time mom videotaping her precious little angel. But I will just do it anyway next week because it was pretty entertaining. I just want our family and friends in “distant lands” to be able to see how much fun Chase can be sometimes!

Tonight is lights out night!

(KSL News) Tonight is “Lights Out Utah,” a one-hour blackout period when you’re asked to turn off the non-essential lights in your home.

Governor Huntsman and Utah Clean Energy are urging Utahns to participate from 9 to 10 p.m.

It’s an experiment to see how much energy can be saved by simple measures. Rocky Mountain Power says if 750,000 customers turned off five light bulbs for one hour, it would save enough energy to run every appliance in 1,300 homes for a week.

Huntsman says the state needs to conserve resources as it grows. Most of Utah’s energy comes from coal. Homes and businesses are being asked to participate.

The same experiment was carried out in London in June. Apparently it was not conclusive at all, so now we are doing it….

Why Apple will never win, part II

Surfing my sites today, I ran across this announcement. Telling me that I can download this plugin for Windows Media Center, and I or anyone I give access, can watch my tv, recorded tv, listen to my music, look at my pictures, schedule new tv recordings, etc. How sweet is that!? Oh and there is a Vista sidebar gadget that pulls your tv RSS feed for easy access to the recently recorded programs! So now I can catch up on my Star Trek during my lunch hour. So now not only does Apple need to bring a media controller to market, they have to make it accessible remotely off the get go. SO far behind… hey anyone want to split my cable bill? You can record and watch any tv you want! 🙂 I’m gonna need a bigger hard drive for Christmas…

Baby Batmobile

Remember the cocooned batmobile from the 90’s Batman (why can’t I find a picture!?) that was so cool. Now we know where he got the idea, from his mom! Who implemented the same idea in his baby stroller…

Somehow I don’t think this video is real…

Thanks Drapers!!

We had tons of fun tonight on Utah lake, thanks to our friends the Drapers. We really, really enjoyed it. Chase has been a little sick so he was very quiet, and he didn’t like the cold water. I think the engine kind of freaked him out but he didn’t cry he just sat there very serious. Pace got up on the wake board after trying 29 times, and Dustin showed us how easy it is to ski on choppy water. We had a blast, so a big thanks to the Drapers!! Check out the full album of pictures and feel free to comment on how hot Joy is.
