Poor Chase!
Yesterday we were looking at countertops at the store, Chase was standing by us, and somehow the guy showing us the samples accidentally punctured Chase’s eye with the point of a ballpoint pen he had in his hand. The white of Chase’s eyeball got a tiny puncture in it; thank goodness it didn’t happen on his cornea or pupil or anything… But I still get so sad because Chase gets injured multiple times every day, sometimes much worse than others (as in this case)!
Anyway, It seems as though this is nothing that would affect his vision, but I am wondering if it could get infected somehow. Mainly I am just wondering about your opinions– should we take him in to an opthamologist to check for infection, or just let his eye heal? I ask because I’m not the type that likes to go to the doctor for just anything, especially because it’s expensive and annoying. Pace called the guy at the store who did it, asking him to pay for the doctor’s visit, but the guy was defensive and it sounds like that might not work out… Opinions about Chase’s eye situation?
Anyone looking to build?
Here is a great video about downsizing houses. While I think downsizing and optimizing space is a great idea, I think this might be a bit extreme. If you disagree, we’ve got a 16 x 18 foot plot in our backyard for sale. Give me your thoughts in the comments.
Oral cough and cold medicines sold over the counter should not be used in children younger than 4 years old because of the risk of rare complications linked to inappropriate use, manufacturers said on Tuesday.
“Research shows that dosing errors and accidental ingestions — not the safety of the ingredients themselves when properly dosed — are the leading causes of rare adverse events in young children,” the group said in a statement.
The association said it made the decision in consultation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which last week held a public meeting to weigh the controversial use of such products in children.
Manufacturers have maintained that nonprescription cough and cold products are safe when used as directed.
But doctors and consumer advocates have called on the agency to reject use of the medicines in children as old as 12. They argued the products have never been proven safe and effective, making any risk too great to give them to children.
Reported complications have included seizures, stroke and other side effects.
Magnetic Air Car
Maybe this will be the wave of the future? Who knows. This car supposedly is powered by air and the movement of magnets. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for us, hopefully not $5 a gal. Keep your eye out for magnet/air cars
Welcome to the new McBlog!
Howdy, welcome to the new McBlog. You won’t really notice much b/c most of the updating was on the back end side. Well mom, now you can each control your own avatar and that avatar will show on all the other sites that support gravatars. In easy step form:
- So right click on your picture below or make a new one and save it (pngs are supported!)
- Go to gravatar.com and enter in the email account you want to always use to blog with. Every blog you go to, use that address and the same avatar will follow you.
- Browse to the saved image and click upload
- Congrats, you are cool
It’s very easy, I’ll even do it for you. Just ask me to, and click confirm when an email comes.
BELTSVILLE, Maryland (Reuters) – Over-the-counter cough and cold medicines should not be sold for young children because they are unproven and can be dangerous, doctors and consumer advocates said on Thursday, despite objections from industry representatives.
Experts urged U.S. Food and Drug Administration officials to ban sales of the products, which take in billions of dollars in annual sales and include versions of Wyeth’s Dimetapp and Procter & Gamble Co’s NyQuil, for children, especially those ages 2 to 6.
“Cough and cold medications … have not been proven to be effective and they have clear risks. It is time for them to be reevaluated,” Dr. Wayne Snodgrass of the University of Texas Medical Branch, said at an FDA meeting to discuss whether the nonprescription remedies should be sold for children.
Other medicines include Novartis AG’s Triaminic and Johnson & Johnson’s Tylenol and PediaCare, among others.

Yesterday evening my "Prince Charming" walked in after a hard day’s work and handed me a bouquet of beautiful purple hydrangeas. I didn’t have dinner started yet, and we were just having un-exciting grilled sandwiches, but there were no complaints. Pace immediately started wrestling and running around the yard/house with the forever energetic and attention-craving Chase. After dinner Pace voluntarily mowed the lawn. Later I started to wipe down the bathrooms, and he came up and said, "What can I do?" I told him if he wanted to do a chore for me he could scrub the tubs. He whisked the cleaning supplies from my hand and told me to go sit and relax (yes, this is a true story)! He then proceeded to clean both bathtubs! All three of us then watched Dumbo together, after which Pace helped me put Chase to bed. Then he helped me put away a load of clean laundry, so that it took no time at all.
This was all especially wonderful because I have been feeling a bit lonely and bored lately, not like I don’t have plenty to do around the house… It’s just challenging to keep up with Chase and to find kids for him to play with, activities to keep him busy all day long, etc. And I don’t think that will change for the better any time soon… But when I look at all that I DO have, I am so grateful and I realize that our problems are very few. So when we were going to bed last night, I looked at Pace collapsed on the bed (with green feet from mowing the lawn barefoot) and I couldn’t have felt more grateful to Heavenly Father for this amazing husband! Thank you, Pace!
